This piece of machinery was designed by stockmen to provide safety for stockmen who have to tag newborn calves single-handedly.
Injuries from cattle-related accidents concerned Peter Alexander, Algo's Managing Director and farmer at Mains of Mause devised the 5ft CalfCatcher to be attached alongside a standard quad bike by the use of two simple ball hitches. The stockman opens the sliding guillotine door and whilst in motion can operate a quick release foot pedal to close the door and safely catch the calf. Administering treatment is also simple and stress-free for both stockmen and the calf's mother as she can see her offspring through the mesh cage and the stockman is at no time at risk from a distressed cow, as he never leaves the safety of his quad bike and CalfCatcher.
If the cow or calf need to be moved or brought in, the CalfCatcher has a rear compartment which enables the safe transportation of the calf with the cow following.
